this yú zǐyuān is a lesbian who was in love with cángsè sànrén and only married into yúnmèng jiāng for political reasons after her beloved died. she isn’t in love with jiāng fēngmián, but she does want children, and she agrees to have two.wèi wúxiàn is a reminder of what she should have had, and her own children are a reminder of what she doesn’t. what she can’t.she loves her children more than anything, but she resents the way her husband favors wèi wúxiàn: she loathes him for both publicly disrespecting her and for the way he neglects his own children.yú zǐyuān ends up leaving him in a way that isn’t typically done and goes back to méishān yú, managing to get her mother to scare jiāng fēngmián into allowing jiāng chéng and jiāng yànlí to spend half of every year with their family in méishān.after a few years pass, she extends an invitation to wèi wúxiàn. he isn’t responsible for the mistakes of her ex-husband or the rumors that others spread./she survives the battle of lotus pier simply by virtue of no longer living there, though she makes her way to yúnmèng as soon as she hears the news.yú zǐyuān doesn’t manage to reunite with her children or wèi wúxiàn until the beginning of the sunshot campaign, vowing to keep them safe (and blaming herself for the massacre).after the war, when things seem as though they’ve begun to stabilize, she comes back to lotus pier to stay for an extended period of time, advising her son when he asks for it and annoying them all by hovering and lecturing 24/7./WIP
